Salome 8.5.0 for Windows

Posted by Michael Grabietz at August 25. 2018

Hello,

on the download page for the new Salome 8.5.0 the following information regarding the windows version is given.

Packages for Windows

This version of SALOME is not available for Windows! If you need SALOME for Windows, please download previous version.

Is  there a time schedule to prepare it for windows? Are there any major issues to prepare it for windows?

Best regards

Michael

Second that! I suppose that there were some compling difficulties currently under Windows.

Maybe the next big public release 9.2 (see http://files.salome-platform.org/Salome/Common/SUD2018/02_Introduction.pdf) will be available for Windows? We can finally say goodbye to the dangerous Python 2 and welcome the more dangerous Python 3.

So developers, please think for some Windows users that actually want to use Salome for their daily busness simulation works in a small and mid-sized companies, and unable to use Linux due to other only Windows-based softwares!!

Hi,

in this post http://www.salome-platform.org/forum/forum_9/96993279#880033530 it was stated that Salomé would run under "bash on Windows", now called WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux). Can anyone confirm that Salomé 8.5.0 runs under WSL, and, if (s)he wants to be very kind, outline the steps to take in order to get WSL and Salomé to work?

I think this would be of interest for all Windows users waiting to be able to use the latest and greatest Salomé version... ;)

Thank you,

Matthias

Hi, it's fairly straightforward:
1) install WSL
2) install Ubuntu16.04

3) install MobaXterm

4) get Salome for ubuntu 16.04

5) start Ubuntu

6) copy Salome archive into your WSL ubuntu (C drive is mounted as /mnt/c use df -h to check mount point)

7) install Salome just like in any linux

6) start MobaXterm to get an X11 Server

8) launch Salome

it should work!

PS: you may have to install some additional package. Check the error message when launching salome...

PS do not forget to run: export DISPLAY=:0 before running salome.
